Woods seemed comfortable, almost casual. He called writers by their nicknames. He answered questions from “Rosie,” and “Salty.” He said the writers were his “friends,” which must have come as news to some of them.
Mostly, Woods seemed like a man who desperately wanted things to go back to the way they used to be. When golf was fun. When the fans cheered madly for him. Someone asked Woods how he expected to do this week.
“Nothing’s changed,” he said. “Going to go out there and try to win this thing.”
It sounded wistful, really. And about as wrong as it could be. Everything’s changed. The porn star will be appearing at a strip club in Atlanta this week. TMZ reporters weren’t allowed in the interview room — credentials were restricted to those who had covered the tournament before the scandal broke — but they’re not going away.
