Atlanta Strip Clubs: Conservatives recall Schaefer, offer praise

Bruce Schaefer, a retired stockbroker, was suffering from cancer, and the couple was going through money problems since the 2008 financial crash, Hudgens said.
Nancy Schaefer founded Family Concerns, an organization that fought abortion and pushed to display the Ten Commandments in public buildings, in 1985. She also founded two pro-life pregnancy centers in Atlanta and served as president of the conservative Eagle Forum of Georgia.
“I have so much respect for her as a woman of faith,” said Christian activist Tim Echols, who worked for Family Concerns in the 1990s. “She was the most tenacious female activist I ever met.”
Echols managed Schaefer’s 1993 campaign for mayor of Atlanta. She took on strip clubs, saying they encouraged rape and prostitution, and the gay community, suing the city of Atlanta in an effort to stop it from giving benefits to the partners of gay employees, Echols said.
