Precinct question have Midtown Atlanta residents pushing for a meeting with the city’s Police Department. A veteran of APD claims he’s been forced into retirement for criticizing his superior. At issue is the best way to patrol one of the city’s police zones.
For the past 12 years, Peggy Denby has lived in Zone 5. It covers part of downtown Atlanta but most of midtown. It’s also where she says Major Khirus Williams has made a definite impression.
“He’s by far the best we’ve ever worked with,” said Denby.
Denby is President of the Midtown Ponce Security Alliance. The group raises money to pay for a 5 member neighborhood patrol consistent of both off-duty and retired police officers. It’s kind of an extra layer of public safety on top of APD. For the past 5 years, Denby says Major Williams helped crack down on prostitution and drug crime.
