Atlanta Escorts: Craiglist is Not Responsible for Prostitution

It sounds counter intuitive, but apparently Craigslist did not invent the idea of people paying for sex. Who saw that coming? As a result, according to a recent court ruling, Craigslist cannot be prosecuted for escorts placing ads on the site.

The problem here isn’t so much with Craigslist or its ads (90% of which are spam bullshit ads for pay sites anyway so lord knows why law enforcement has such a hate on for it, but that’s another issues altogether), it’s law enforcement. And no, we’re not shitting on cops who do a valuable service most of the time, we’re shitting on one cop. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is an idiot.

Dart has been in the news as long as the Craigslist erotic services “scandal” has been in the news and is the brainless figurehead behind the quest to have Craigslist shut down. He filed the suit against the site, basically claiming it’s criminally liable for what its users post and that it solicits on behalf of the prostitutes and arranges the illegal activities. In a nutshell he was arguing if it weren’t for Craigslist, this who sex for money thing wouldn’t be happening. The website was inexplicably forcing people to do it.

As it happens, Craigslist is not built on an old Indian burial grounds nor does it possess mysterious voodoo powers that enable it to control the minds and dicks of people who stumble upon it. The judge apparently Googled it and learned that also, and outright dismissed the sheriff’s case, stopping short of calling it completely idiotic, but conceding that the court did not need to accept his allegations at face value.
