Four men from Georgia are scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh on charges they used homeless people or prostitutes to cash forged payroll checks at western Pennsylvania banks.
Federal prosecutors want the men to remain incarcerated pending trial and will also argue that the suspects should remain incarcerated until then.
U.S. Postal Inspectors say they’ve been investigating groups out of Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta since 2010 who have been using homeless individuals to cash forged checks.
Travis Davis and Cordarell Pearson, both 24, along with 23-year-old Edmund Heath and 21-year-old Brandon Roseberry, all from Atlanta, were arrested Thursday on charges including aggravated identity theft.
Investigators says 18 counterfeit business checks totaling nearly $42,000 were cashed in recent weeks.
