Advocates of legalized gambling say there is a large amount of money to be made for the state, but critics say there are other issues to consider.
Jeff Thomas has been playing the lottery for nearly 20 years.
“I won a $100 on a ticket this morning but I done played it all back,” says Jeff Thomas, Lottery Player.
He spends about $300 a week on lottery tickets.
But he says he would rather gamble in a casino than spending his time scratching off tickets.
“I would definitely go to the casino and try my luck there,” says Thomas.
A study requested by the Georgia Lottery Corporation found that metro Atlanta is an untapped and potentially lucrative site for casino gambling.
“They are not thinking about the problems associated with gambling, things like drugs, and organized crime and prostitution, things that affect society already,” says Chip Gresham, Calvary Baptist Church Pastor.
