Atlanta Adult Entertainment: Atlanta Mayor, Police Chief, Seek to Restore Trust with GLBT Communities

Chief Turner said that, so far this year, police have set up eight road blocks at 10th and Piedmont, out of a total of about 800 throughout the entire Police Zone 6, and insisted there has not been any selective enforcement.
One woman asked the Chief if he intends to implement a quota system for officers, which, she said, could force officers who need to make some arrests, to make quota, to target GLBT neighborhoods, in order to make “junk arrests.”
Turner said, point blank, “There is no quota system” and there will not be while he is Chief.
A woman told the Chief she wants to be protected from police misconduct. She complained that Atlanta police often stereotype, profile and target transgendered women unfairly. “Even if they’re not arresting the women, a lot of trans women are assumed to be prostitutes,” and are harassed by officers, she said.
